Traditional pansies and mums are a classic seasonal adornment to bridge the gap from summer to winter, but have you tried combining them with other late-season color?<\/p>\n<p>Try some of these ideas and you\u2019ll have containers you\u2019ll love through to Thanksgiving! Annual.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/echters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1655.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-109\" src=\"http:\/\/echters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1655.jpg\" alt=\"flowering kale\" width=\"325\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/echters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1655.jpg 638w, https:\/\/echters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1655-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 325px) 100vw, 325px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Sedum-<\/strong> covers a wide range of colors, textures, and heights. Some varieties are only a few inches tall, while others such as Autumn Joy can reach 2 feet. Mixing varieties in the same container can produce an amazing results\u2014a tall, billowing sedum in the back of a pot can be nicely balanced by \u2018Dragons Blood\u2019 spilling off the front in shades of red (or \u2018Angelina\u2019 for yellow). Many varieties have quarter-size fleshy leaves that shift in tone from cool blues to fall tones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Euphorbias-<\/strong> flower vividly in the spring and have red\/orange\/yellow leaves as fall sets in. Foliage texture can be rigidly upright to wispy and delicate. Some have a full &amp; fluffy look, while others are more airy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Heucheras\/ Coral Bells<\/strong> \u2013 Available in a wide range of fall colors from deep, rich purples to caramel. Green varieties blend to reds and purples as the season progresses and add a sophisticated flair.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rudbeckia-<\/strong> Plants (and flowers!) can be mammoth or miniscule depending on variety. \u2018Toto\u2019 reaches a pint-sized 1\u2019 in height and bronzed \u2018Autumn Colors\u2019 will reach 2+\u2019. Also in the tall group are \u2018Indian Summer\u2019 and \u2018Prairie Sun\u2019. \u2018Goldsturm\u2019 has smaller flowers but a ton of them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/echters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1649.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-105\" src=\"http:\/\/echters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1649.jpg\" alt=\"Rudbeckia\" width=\"345\" height=\"259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/echters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1649.jpg 640w, https:\/\/echters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1649-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Ornamental Grasses-<\/strong> Easy fillers that come in a range of tones. Sedums can be any of those, depending on the varieties you select. Euphorbias are likely to be fillers or thrillers. Rudbeckias make a great thriller, and heucheras are lovely fillers. Adding back in the mums and pansies, a large patio pot might contain:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 Autumn Joy Sedum<\/li>\n<li>1 Grass, Zebra (yellow and green)<\/li>\n<li>2 Heucheras- one purple, one red or caramel<\/li>\n<li>1 6pk pansies, any colors , 2 Mums, any color<\/li>\n<li>1 Kale<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>For a smaller container, try:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n&#8211; 1 kale<br \/>\n&#8211; 1 mum<br \/>\n&#8211; 2 small sedums<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/echters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1652.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-107\" src=\"http:\/\/echters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1652.jpg\" alt=\"Chrysanthemum\" width=\"352\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/echters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1652.jpg 638w, https:\/\/echters.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_1652-300x223.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 352px) 100vw, 352px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Remember to pull out and plant perennials in the ground if you would like to have them come back next spring.
